For almost a month, some of the most prominent news reports focus on the longest government shutdown in history. Government shutdowns generally occur because Congress fails to agree on federal funding. Closings can also happen when the President of the United States vetoes or fails to sign federal funding spending bills. While most of the government shutdowns throughout history were unnoticed or forgotten, there have been a few over the past 30 years which have made their mark for various reasons.
